In calculating August’s earnings yesterday, I thought it would be interesting to see how others are doing in their online endeavors. How much did you earn online last month? Did you meet your goals and expectations? What do you think you can over the course of the next month to improve your business and potentially make more? Share your thoughts as a comments here, or if you have a blog post, feel free to link to it!

    Hi there Matt,

I passed $200 in my first month of blogging. Of course that’s not from the blog alone. I have over the last couple of years been running several pretty successful Norwegian websites, but last month I decided that I wanted some english sites and to start studing affiliate. So my blog is really just a case study, where I write my ramblings!

I set my self a target of doubling my blog traffic and I went further and trebled it! So good month goal wise for me :)

I love the earnings post :)

I recently made one myself. I’ve been doing some niche website/blog sites. I made $46.49.

I’m trying to make money as fast as I can as I quit my job :). So I cut down on my blogging plan and instead focused on niche websites. I started my new plan about Aug 20th, so that’s about 10 days of income :).

My goal is to make $1000 this month. I’m going to work my ass off to get there. I’m also developing my personal blog as well to be like Matt Huggins.

August Adsense earnings from my free photo web site (not blog) were $811.
(I make practically nothing from my blog as yet).

I would be very interested in further info on how to effectively get direct advertisers (I have not made much of an effort on this front yet).
I would also recommend quantcast.com for giving a real time overview of your web site visitors (it is easy to include on your site and is more accurate than alexa, and less effort than google analytics, AND the figures tend to be on the higher side than with Google analytics).

Usually my only online income is from my Second Life Premium account stipend - something like $7 per month.

However, I got a couple of donations via PayPal from someone in August, totaling $8.50. PayPal took out their fees, however, so the actual total ended up being $7.65.

This greatly exceeded my expectations, because those were the first donations I had ever gotten via PayPal since I began asking for them on the web in late June 2006. :-) (I did, however, get about 17 small donations within Second Life, each below about 37 cents).

PayPal’s fees are why I much prefer Second Life as a payment method. :) There are fees only when you cash out of Second Life, but not for any transactions within Second Life. (More details on Second Life as a payment method are available in this post I wrote: http://pods.zaadz.com/microdonations/discussions/view/156128 ).

I’ve been rather disappointed that no one has written to me regarding advertising on my site, even though the prices are now as low as $1 or $2 per day for a small ad.

I still am wary of Google AdSense, so no AdSense for me.

No auction sales, either. I’d probably do better if I sold on eBay instead of AuctionAddict, but, what can I say, I loathe listing and commission fees. :) Oh, yeah, I’d also probably do better if I ever got around to listing more than 3 items (but my threshold for boring tasks like creating auction listings is very low).

Oh, yes, I almost forgot. In August, I had to sell off all my land in Second Life since I needed some money to pay my annual Second Life bill of $72, etc. I didn’t cash out all the Linden $ I made on those sales, but I was able to cover my bill, with the equivalent of about $220 USD left over. Quite an astonishing amount of money for what is nothing but virtual land.

I actually lost money on those sales, though. :-) I had bought the land when it was still rather expensive, because I thought I was going to do something with it, like maybe rent it to people, etc. (Though it was also sort of a reckless impulse buy). But, my plans were rather foggy and not clearly-defined, and, being busy with various other things, I never got around to it.

On the positive side, I couldn’t have picked a better moment to sell, because the Second Life land prices (which had been rather too high for many months) dropped a lot, quite soon thereafter. I would have lost a lot more money if I had held onto it.

Anyhow, I expect this month I might begin to have a fighting chance of earning some income via Second Life, since I am almost ready to unveil a useful scripted item I slaved for over a month to create (and am still in the process of readying for release). It’s the first thing I ever threw myself really wholeheartedly and relentlessly into developing in Second Life.

I don’t know how well it’s likely to sell, but, I figured it was worth a try. Even I myself use my item and rely on it, so, I think it will probably sell. It’s a texture display/texture organizer object.

Anyhow, whatever happens, I’ll doubtless be telling the world about it in my blog (on Zaadz) and elsewhere. :)

Congratulations to everyone on your earnings, I’m happy for you. :)

I started blogging and looking for ways to make money online on September 3 and so far I have made $52.85. Not bad for a little over a weeks worth of work :)
