Question of the Week - Week of 7/30/2007

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Because of my background in IT, familiarizing myself with blogging was a relatively quick and painless process. As such, there are aspects of the technology that I have not discussed on my blog simply because they come somewhat naturally to me. In order to help other bloggers who might not know about some of these blogging concepts, I’m planning to put together a “getting back to basics” blog series.

For those of you who are still learning some of the basics, what are some aspects of blogging that you don’t understand as well as you wish you could? For those who have some experience under your belts, what are some topics you’ve learned about that you wish you knew about earlier in the game?

This couldn’t come at a better time! I’m trying to move from the wordpress.com templates of the wordpress.org opensource software and I need some direction. I don’t know what I need to learn (as far as HTML, CSS, PHP, etc.) Do I need to know those languages? and if so, where should I go to learn them?

I want to have as much useful functionality as possible on my blog, so I assume I need to be able to customize it as much as possible. any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Ok, how about a post informing people like me what exactly SEO is and what it does in terms that someone from another planet could understand.

I understand a little bit of it, but on a whole, I’m totally lost. Then too, I’ve read so many articles out there giving the pros and cons of creating blogs around SEO, that I’m really confused. Do I or don’t I????

Ok, that’s all I can think of for now. If I think of anything else, I’ll let you know.

My blog is an overview of what i’m doing from feedburning to bookmarking - it’s all new stuff for me.
    Great blog by the way

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I’ll take these all into consideration when planning out this blog series.
