WordPress Schedule PostDid you know that you can write WordPress blog posts ahead of time and automate them to release at a certain date or time? Well you can, and it’s rather simple!

After you finish writing your blog post, don’t be so quick to push the publish button. Look to the right side of your WordPress dashboard, and you should see a box labeled “Post Timestamp”. (You may need to click the plus icon to expand the box if it is not already accessible.)

First, check the checkbox labeled “Edit timestamp” at the top of the box, as pictured. Next, provide the date and time (hour must be in 24-hour format) that you want your blog posted. Finally, click the “Publish” button on your blog post.

Your blog post won’t be accessible until the time you specified is reached. To ensure that you scheduled the post correctly, pull up your WordPress Dashboard, and take a look at your Recent Activity. As per the screen shot below, you should now have a section entitled “Scheduled Entries” that includes your new blog post.

Cool, thanks Matt. I expect there’s a load of stuff in Wordpress I don’t know about and am too lazy to look into!

Alot of blogging clients also have this feature.

I know of the feature, but I’ve never used it. I’m thinking about using it when I go on vacation in 2 weeks. We shall see. Thanks Matt!

Unfortunately, I haven’t had the opportunity to use many other blogging clients besides WordPress and Blogger, so I don’t know how to set up automatic posts for those other applications. I must admit that I’ve become somewhat of a WordPress fanboy though, as I’ve come to love everything it offers.

I have never tried this feature, though I have tried it with Windows Live Writer, which I believe is the blogging client that Jaime from Terinea was talking about. I feel weird doing this though. I guess I figure “I just wrote it, may as well publish” but I guess it would really come in handy if I wanted to take a vacation! :)

You guys don’t know what you’re missing! This feature is great especially if you’re going away for a weekend or you know that you won’t have much time to post in the next couple of days.

I try my best to use this feature in order to space out my posts. There is nothing worst than a blog that has sudden burst of posts and then nothing for a couple of days. Obviously some content is time oriented so it need to be published straight away.

Danielle, I think that could be underlined as one of the signs your blogaholic..
“I guess I figure “I just wrote it, may as well publish” ” :-)
