Blog Earnings for May 2007

I decided to start posting about any revenue earned with this blog at the end of each month. Since this blog is about entrepreneurship and focuses on making money online, I think a look into what has been making me money may benefit you in deciding what might be most worthwhile.
In addition to showing this month’s earnings, the chart below also includes any revenue generated directly from this blog since its inception in January. Note that I never attempted to monetize this blog in any way except for Google AdSense ads until March, when I first started using Kontera ContentLink, and April, when I first started using paid review programs.

Below is a detailed breakdown of the various sources of May’s earnings.
- Google AdSense: $6.73
- Kontera ContentLink: $1.28
- AuctionAds: $5.00
- Sponsored Reviews: $0.00
- ReviewMe: $29.00
- PayPerPost: $27.50
- BloggerWave: $9.31
- Total: $78.82
The winner for this month is ReviewMe, with PayPerPost in a close second. AdSense earned slightly less for May than it did for April, but it wasn’t too far off.
ContentLink earned about the same amount in May as it did in April. However, because I felt that the monetary benefit did not outweigh the drawback (ContentLink’s annoyance factor), I decided to remove it from my blog. As such, ContentLink ads only appeared on the blog during about the first half of May. Since my ContentLink balance is under the minimum payment amount of $50, I will not be receiving a payment, meaning that I technically should not count it in my earnings. However, I decided to include it so as to demonstrate its earning power beside the other services being utilized.
I just installed AuctionAds on my blog less than a week ago. They currently only appear on individual posts before the comments section. I haven’t earned any affiliate commission with AuctionAds yet, but I did receive $5.00 in my account for signing up for the program. (As an aside, I had 4 affiliates sign up over the past week, so I could potentially earn 4% commission through those accounts in the upcoming months.)
Sponsored Reviews did not have many opportunities that I felt suited the topics covered in this blog. A recent SEO review opportunity was posted, but since I just recently completed an SEO review via ReviewMe, I opted not to take it. My intention is not to overload my blog with paid reviews; I’m more interested in providing information that will benefit you in your efforts to make money online.
That’s all for this month. It will be interesting to see how things shape up in June. Obviously, I’m hoping for greater earnings (who isn’t?), but I will continue to be selective in my process of selecting reviews and implementing advertising and affiliate programs. How did your earnings do this month?

Great work Matt. Nice to see you spreading things around and not relying on 1 source of revenue. Keep up the good work.

Hey hon.
I’m so proud of you. I’ve noticed that I’m starting to make some bucks from these sites as well, but I do have to say one thing about Sponsored Reviews. They suck.
I’ve been on “pending approval” for nearly a month. Maybe it’s just me, but that’s a bit too long. Ok, that’s just my opinion.
You keep up the good work, some of us out here in the blogosphere look to you in order to keep going. LOL

Thanks for the feedback!
Christine, I have to agree with you about Sponsored Reviews, although not for the same reason. Their service doesn’t realize suck, but the opportunities always seem to suck. And when the opportunities don’t suck, there have been multiple times that I haven’t received a response (approval or disapproval) from an advertiser after placing a bid.
And thanks for saying you look up to me/my blog, you’re too kind!

It’s a good idea to be transparent about the money you are making on your making money blogging blog, I think it genuinely helps people because some people may wonder how much they can make on a blog themselves and the figures made by some may be misleading.
You have a great blog here, so I expect those numbers will only increase. Keep it up!

Thanks, Danielle. I hope the numbers go up too!
Although I haven’t mentioned earnings on here until this post, I do like the idea of being transparent with what I’ve earned through my blog since it does help others to see what potential the programs I’ve reviewed on here have. Even though my blog is only 5 months old and still growing, there is plenty of potential.
I do think it’s interesting, though, that people are more open to disclosing their earnings online than they are at a day job. Many bloggers and other forms of Internet entrepreneurs do this, but if you ask someone you work with in an office about what they make, you’ll definitely get funny looks. But that’s really for another post.

I made $50+ last month with Auction Ads. The thing is that when you use a program like AuctionAds you need to ask yourself if your audience is likely to out-click via that ad or not.
My target audience is highly likely to click-out via the AuctionAds link and I reap the benefits of it.
I used to run the Amazon affiliate system but I never made any money off it.

Matt, I feel you’re very honest in displaying your earning, even though it’s not much, but your sincerity is more important. Looking forward to get an update in your future blogging income
