Blog Earnings for July 2007

August 1st, 2007 by Matt Huggins

It’s that time! Another month has passed, and that means I have another blog earnings recap. In my June 2007 earnings report, I earned a total of $62.28, which is slightly less than what I earned during the prior month. July was good to me, and I managed to earn more than what I earned during both May and June this year, much of which is attributable to a piece of linkbait that found its way around the blogosphere. The final tally for July is $112.42, which can be seen in the chart below.

July 2007 Blog Earnings

Earnings Breakdown

Below is a detailed breakdown of the various sources of July’s earnings compared to what was earned in June.

Source June July Change
Google AdSense $13.80 $67.92 392%
AuctionAds $0.34 $3.17 832%
Sponsored Reviews $0.00 $32.50 N/A
PayPerPost $30.00 $0.00 (100%)
BloggerWave $9.31 $0.00 (100%)
Backlink Promotion $8.83 $8.83 0%
Total $62.28 $112.42 81%

Google AdSense, AuctionAds, and Sponsored Reviews were the three sources where earnings grew between months. July’s high AdSense income is strongly attributable to my article 55 Essential Articles Every Serious Blogger Should Read being linked to by many popular blogs (several in the top 100 on Technorati).

I found that AuctionAds provided a higher click-through rate and a better commission as a result once I added it to my left navigation bar where it is more visible. (Previously, AuctionAds was only displaying between my posts and comments on individual post pages.)

Lastly, I completed an opportunity on Sponsored Reviews late in the month. The opportunity was for $50, but since Sponsored Reviews takes a fairly hefty percentage compared to PayPerPost (my paid review site of preference), I only received $32.50.

What’s in Store for August

With my Make Money from Your Blog article ranking within the first two pages of Google for the phrase “make money blogging” (its exact SERP position changes constantly), I managed to have a few more affiliates sign up under me for both AdSense and AuctionAds using my referral links. While I may not ever receive any commission from these sign-ups, I’ll remain optimistic that there is at least a chance of receiving additional earnings that I didn’t have prior to these sign-ups.

Unfortunately, July did not result in any direct advertising sales within my right navigation bar. I did manage to finally be accepted by Text Link Ads after tinkering with my submission URL. (I honestly think their system may be buggy since I wasn’t accepted in the past once my stats improved significantly beyond other blogs that were accepted by TLA.) Now that I can sell links through their service, I may have an additional source of income listed in next month’s earnings report.

Looking good Matt. It’s nice to see an 81% increase in earnings. Any goals for this month specifically?

  3. Matt Huggins Says:

One of my goals is to be more proactive about making direct advertising sales. I contacted several advertisers that I found on similar blogs, and I have one so far that got back to me with interest. I should be hosting their ad in the “sponsors” section of my blog soon. That alone will make up almost 50% of what I made in July.

Other than that, I’m going to try to write more quality content that will hopefully produce more links and more visitors.

[...] My plan for monetizing Blog Marketplace is twofold.  One method of generating income will be to find an advertiser who wishes to place a banner at the top of the website.  The second method of generating income will be to charge a small fee for placing blog auctions on the site, which will occur via PayPal.  I’m still debating whether or not I will include the Blog Marketplace income into my monthly earnings report. Well done Matt, I guess it just sticking it out. Your providing useful information all the time.

Google is due to update it’s page rank soon (August) maybe you’ll reach 4 even 5? That way advertisers will pay you more.

Thanks, everyone. Iwebtool’s PageRank predictor says I should expect to become PR5, but we’ll see if that rings true or not! I’m also over $50 earnings so far this month between AdSense and direct advertising. Hopefully August will turn out to bring in more money than July!

Well done Matt, things are definitely looking up for you! I think you can pretty much strike off Bloggerwave in your earnings report, as there seems no more opportunities coming from them.

I signed up with them with high hopes but was totally disappointed, they got only 2 opportunities available.
